Horween Tannery

Founded by Isidore Horween in Chicago in 1905, The Horween Leather Company has been a family run operation for over a century. Originally focusing on shaving strops and mechanical leather, Horween quickly grew a reputation in the US as the finest supplier of quality leathers. Starting in 1941, Horween became the sole supplier of football leather for the NFL, and soon after began supplying leather for the NBA's basketballs, and both the MLB's baseballs and gloves.

Billykirk's Horween leather is a specially formulated vegetable tan, designed to create the perfect balance of durability and comfort. Using only the highest grade American hides, we are able to create an extremely hardy yet supple leather. Each hide is a bi-product of the meat industry and naturally tanned with minimal water and energy use. Both Horween and Billykirk are adamant believers in the old adage, "waste not, want not".
